In today’s edition of “Eggheads”, there was a question on the flag of Equatorial Guinea.

I am not familiar with this flag – but I do know an interesting fact about Equatorial Guinea! cheers It is the only African country (i.e. sovereign state) which has Spanish as an official language. Smile

Cities in Equatorial Guinea include Bata, and the capital Malabo.

Champaign is in Illinois, USA. This is mentioned in the episode “Beyond the Grave” of Midsomer Murders – an episode which makes reference to the English Civil War (1642–51).

I know that this War was fought between sides called Cavaliers and Roundheads. But I fail to see any connection between Cavaliers and homosexuals, as insinuated in the Midsomer Murders episode.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup was hosted in Brazil – and one of the subjects on today’s “Pointless” was World Cities!

I could not believe that nobody remembered anything about Recife, Manaus, Salvador – especially as this answer turned out to be the lowest-scoring by a mile. Shocked These are of course three of the host cities of the last World Cup. The others were Brasília, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Natal, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and, famously, Belo Horizonte – where one of the semifinal matches finished Brazil 1–7 Germany. (Germany were out of this world in this match – while Brazil were out of that World Cup after that match.)

I mean, that World Cup was not so long ago, was it? I was so cheesed off that I stopped watching the programme after that round.

The Spanish I’m backing gets caught in sticky substance in Moroccan city (7)
    Solution: GUELMIM.

Guelmim is in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, Morocco. The capital of Morocco is Rabat, but its largest city is Casablanca. And, who can forget the classic film Casablanca? Though the movie won the Best Picture Oscar, what a shame that neither Humphrey Bogart nor Ingrid Bergman won an Academy Award for their roles in it. But Bogart did win the Best Actor Oscar for The African Queen, while Bergman won Best Actress Oscars for Gaslight and Anastasia.

Even in silence, problems for American city (5, 5)
    Solution: SEVEN HILLS.

Seven Hills is in Ohio, USA – as we learn in the last episode, “Overseas”, of the present series of QI, in the part where we also learn that Rome was built on eight rather than seven hills (the Vatican Hill not traditionally included in the list for some reason or other) and where Alan Davies and Bill Bailey off on a tangent discussing hilly and not so hilly places in the world. According to the two of them, there is no crime in Holland and Belgium because these two countries are so flat that everyone can see each other for miles.

But then it might be because the countries are so flat that everyone is on the level. lol!
