Trump–Kim Jong-un summit set for Singapore on 12 June

US President Donald Trump will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on 12 June, he has said.

In March, Mr Trump stunned the world by accepting an invitation to meet Mr Kim for an unprecedented sit-down.

No sitting US president has ever met a North Korean leader.

And for this, Trump may well get the Nobel Peace Prize later this year! The UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson seemed to think so a couple of days ago.

If the summit turns out to be successful and Trump does get the Nobel Peace Prize, then surely so will Kim (no way they can give the award to one but not the other)! Can you imagine this? Two people for whom world peace was the least of their concerns at the start of the year sharing the Nobel Peace Prize in October?!

North Korea threatens to cancel Trump summit

North Korea has said it may pull out of a summit with US President Donald Trump if the US insists it gives up its nuclear weapons.

The sudden change in tone from Pyongyang is said to have taken US officials by surprise. Analysts said North Korea could be trying to strengthen its hand before talks.

North Korea has in the past suggested that Libya may have escaped Western military intervention had it kept its nuclear weapons programme.

Trump cancels Kim summit amid North Korea “hostility”

US President Donald Trump has cancelled a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, saying the world had “lost a great opportunity for lasting peace”.

Mr Trump was apparently responding to statements from North Korea attacking his administration and casting doubt over the meeting.

The big question is what happens now?

Hopefully someone much more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize will not be deprived of it later this year.

North Korea “working on new missiles”, US officials say

North Korea appears to be building new ballistic missiles despite recent warming ties with the Trump administration, media reports say.

Unnamed US officials told the Washington Post that spy satellites had spotted continuing activity at a site that has produced ballistic missiles.

President Donald Trump met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June.

Yes, the summit actually went ahead.

After the first meeting between sitting leaders from the two countries, the two men pledged to work towards denuclearisation. Mr Trump later said North Korea was “no longer a nuclear threat”.

But Mr Trump was criticised at home for making concessions without securing any firm commitment from Mr Kim to end the nuclear and missile programmes.
