It was not as crowded at The George, South Woodford, as crowded tonight as I had feared. After the open circle at Woodford Spiritualist Church, I went in and had a pint (568 mℓ) of Adnams Ghost Ship pale ale.

Earlier today, after work, I had popped in at The Apple Tree, Farringdon, and had a pint of Hardys & Hansons Rocking Rudolph bitter.

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose – and if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.

Jacques Rudolph is a South African cricketer.

Pub drinks must be rather expensive these days – and most likely will continue to be so after Brexit. Indeed the prices of alcoholic drinks in the UK are like the entropy of the Universe: they never decrease.

They are still comparatively cheap at JD Wetherspoon pubs. At the moment, I am having a pint of Nethergate Brewery Red Santa ruby ale at The Great Spoon of Ilford.

It is just past midday right now – so, not too early to start drinking, I hope?

The Penderel’s Oak is a JD Wetherspoon pub in Holborn. The Cloud free wifi service here is pretty nifty:

    The Calthorpe Arms, Clerkenwell. cheers

In The Day of the Jackal by Frederick Forsyth, the hired killer goes by the name of Charles Calthrop – the first three letters of the first name and of the surname spelling out the French word for “jackal”.

I was in the Calthorpe Arms last evening. The landlord was not very nice to me. So, just before I left, I went and nicked all the loo paper from the gents.

In 1993, the Gulf of Mexico was hit by a large cyclonic storm that has since become known as the Storm of the Century, or the Great Blizzard of 1993.

I am now at the Penderel’s Oak enjoying a pint of Blizzard winter ale.

I have just read about alcoholism in the Oxford Concise Colour Medical Dictionary.

Alcoholism impairs intellectual function, physical skills, memory, and judgment. Social skills can also be affected. Heavy consumption of alcohol also causes cardiomyopathy, peripheral neuropathy, cirrhosis of the liver, and enteritis.

I have just read about WHY ALCOHOL CAN BE HARMFUL in the chapter “The Why of Man” of Dean’s Tell Me the Answer.

Although wines and other alcoholic drinks are in daily use, often in quite large amounts, it must be remembered that alcohol can be dangerous.

This is primarily because it is not a food and cannot therefore be used for the ‘fuelling’ of the body, nor is it transformed into a natural reserve like some foods which are converted into reserves of fat.

In addition, even as a source of energy alcohol is an inferior product because it acts as a violent stimulant and has a harmful effect on the balance of the organism.

Alcohol should, therefore, be taken in moderation and at the right times, for instance, with meals.
