Roman villa as big as Buckingham Palace found by chance
The Times today has a story on the discovery of a Roman villa near the town of Banbury, Oxfordshire.
“One of the largest Roman villas ever discovered in Britain has been unearthed on land belonging to the family of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, thanks to the curiosity of a metal detectorist and the serendipitous ploughing of a farmer,” writes Vincent Wood.
The explorer Sir Ranulph is a cousin of the actor Ralph Fiennes, who not only is known all over the world for playing the character Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films but was also nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his rôle in the film The English Patient (1996).
