    I have just read about Arab Revolt (1916) in the Larousse Dictionary of Twentieth Century History.


    The Arab Revolt … or Great Arab Revolt … was officially initiated by Hussein bin Ali, Sharif of Mecca, at Mecca on 10 June 1916 … with the aim of securing independence from the ruling Ottoman Turks and creating a single unified Arab state stretching from Aleppo in Syria to Aden in Yemen.

    And taking part in the operations was one T. E. Lawrence – “Lawrence of Arabia”, a name later to be made forever famous by a film starring Peter O’Toole.
