I have just read about Astell, Mary (1666–1731) in The Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy.

There was a feminist writer (philosopher) before Mary Wollstonecraft? I did not know that.

Mary Wollstonecraft’s second daughter (shortly after giving birth to whom she died) was to find eternal fame as the author of the ever popular Gothic novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

And Mary Wollstonecroft Godwin caused a huge scandal in her time by having an affair with a married man, the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley! They married each other after the suicide of Percy’s first wife Harriet. Percy himself did not live a long life, dying just before his 30th birthday.

A moment ago, I read about Adonais: An Elegy on the Death of John Keats in The Cambridge Guide to Literature in English. So Keats died before Shelley – short though as the latter’s life was.
